STEM Education in the Digital Era

Teaching and Learning in Technology-Rich Environments

How are digitalisation and artificial intelligence transforming STEM education?

Digital technologies are transforming how knowledge is accessed, created, communicated, taught and assessed. Beyond introducing new technologies, these developments raise fundamental questions about curricula, competencies, assessment practices and the evolving roles of teachers and learners. This track explores research on the opportunities, challenges and implications of digital transformation for STEM education.

We welcome theoretical, conceptual and empirical contributions from individual STEM disciplines as well as interdisciplinary perspectives.

Key Topics

  • Technology-enhanced STEM learning, including digital learning environments, and the design of technology-rich learning experiences

  • Artificial intelligence in STEM education, including AI-supported teaching and learning, generative AI, intelligent tutoring systems and ethical implications of AI in education.

  • Digital assessment and feedback, including digital and AI-supported assessment, learning analytics, adaptive assessment and formative feedback.

  • Digital competencies and knowledge practices, including digital and AI literacy, computational thinking, data literacy, and new forms of knowledge creation, collaboration and communication.

  • Transforming STEM education through digital innovation, including curriculum transformation, teacher education and professional development, and the implementation of digital innovation across educational settings
